Trap Quest

Our flagship game. A roguelike dungeon explorer where you have to deal with traps, friends, foes, magic curses, transforming clothing, and more that are trying to turn you into more of a big-titted, low-witted bimbo. But don't make your stay in our world too short, because your character earns more prize money the better they do in the game.

What is Trap Quest?

Trap Quest is an erotic text-heavy turn-based clickable-text-input roguelike game which can be run in Windows, older versions of MacOS (newer versions have to use the glitchy Gargoyle or emulate Windows) , Linux, and (to some lesser extent) Android and iOS. Its premise is that you're playing a very difficult virtual reality game and your body and mind are transformed in response to the events that happen in the game while you search for the exit.

The primary type of transformation in the game is 'bimbofication', a bimbo being a superficial person whose appearance, attire and behaviour is overtly sexually provocative. You can choose to play as male or female; for a male character this transformation can include sexual reorientation and/or actual biological transformation into a woman (depending on your game options selections) and will always include feminization, including the wearing of highly feminine and revealing clothing.

Other transformation content that can be enabled/disabled includes but is not limited to:

  •     Pregnancy
  •     Lactation
  •     Weight gain
  •     Extreme proportions
  •     Artificial enhancements (breast implants, lip augmentation, etc…)
  •     Air inflation
  •     Tentacles & other inhuman creatures

The game is built around a robust set of game mechanics that I’ve been working with the player community over 10 years (and counting) to perfect and balance, including:

  •     Traps
  •     Combat (with a large variety of non-player characters, each with their own unique traits and lots of varied art)
  •     Inventory management
  •     Humiliation level management
  •     Exhaustion/health/arousal management
  •     Hunger and thirst
  •     Potions, food, and drinks with positive/negative/transformative effects
  •     Crafting
  •     Uncursing/blessing/durability/transformation of clothing and items
  •     Cravings/obsessions that get reinforced when satisfied
  •     Themed character classes with their own mechanics
  •     Allies and bosses
  •     An NPC favor/hostility system
  •     A shop system
  •     Interactive environments
  •     Optional sub-quests
  •     A map display that’s revealed as you explore
  •     An interactive character display window that toggles between depicting your current body proportions or your current clothing.

The level layouts, crafting recipes, and loot selection and enchantments are randomized in every playthrough, and this, combined with the absolutely huge amount of content that's been added over a decade, makes the game infinitely replayable. Playthroughs typically last between 2 and 5 hours, but your first run will take a long time as you get used to everything.

The game is designed to be very difficult. While it’s possible for your character to successfully reach the exit as the same person they were when they started, in practice this never happens. The game is designed to overwhelm and disempower you, and punish you for the compromising choices you’ve had to make. The object is to, through its mechanics, immerse you in your character's feelings of submission. This is not a game that you’re supposed to win; it’s a game that’s supposed to beat you and make that experience enjoyable.

WARNING

Things get complicated below! Newbies on Windows are recommended to use the big download link at the top. For everyone else, please read on.

Trap Quest was created with Inform. To play a work like this one, you need to download two different things:

  1. 1) A glulxe interpreter program (you open this program and then select the game file): many are available, Windows Git is strongly recommended for any machine that can run it (if your overzealous antivirus has a problem with area57's improved speed version, there's an older official version here). Another interpreter called Gargoyle is available on multiple platforms but is more prone to crashes. If you're having trouble consult this page.
  2. 2) The game file. We are currently experimenting with hosting the game files on the game's itchio page, so please head there to download your chosen window.

Which one to pick? Well, decide which one you like the most from this image below!

Premium Content

You can access the premium content by supporting us in the following places:

Beta Tester: $5 + VAT on Patreon

This gives you the ability to use undo, and most alpha tester content becomes accessible to beta testers within 12 months.

WARNING

We cannot guarantee that your computer and interpreter will be able to undo. Some people find that the game is so big that their interpreter struggles to save an undo buffer.

As of September 2024, the following content is not available to the public, but is available to beta testers:

  • Access the Extra Credit Zone in the academy, full of exciting predicaments (excluding those predicaments added within the last 12ish months)
  • Enable alcohol
  • Spend 1 point to remove the random patron-designed NPC that spawns each game
  • Become a futanari by, as a female, placing enough defiance tokens into a crafting bowl
  • Enable stronger curses (the knives and altars can't remove cursed clothing, instead, altars can re-roll uncurse quests)
  • Customise some flavour, including your own name (after the game has started properly, go into "settings" and there will be some new options "Customise female names", "Customise male names", and "Customise flavour").
  • Set an NPC gender preference - the game tries as hard as possible to make all NPCs the chosen gender
  • Start the game with a 'combat visor' that shows you the raw numbers behind many in-game mechanics
  • Use the "torment" verb on permanently defeated NPCs (e.g. anyone who got got by the minotaur)
  • Encounter some special variants of the hotel patrons, including 'real life friends' who you've been exposed to over the Internet.
  • Encounter some of the latest scenes with Barbara, including one where you bump into her in the Mansion, desperate to give someone a messy snowball kiss
  • Go through the 'museum heist' painting in the mansion (get the nearby cat hood!) and attempt the heist mission.

Alpha Tester: $20 + VAT on Patreon or $18 + VAT on SubscribeStar

This gives you access to everything that can be unlocked. The current reward model is that if you stop pledging, you retain access to the old stuff you unlocked in newer versions, but you will lose access to the latest stuff. This is managed by us providing current subscribers with a new updated unlock file every couple of months or so.

The three biggest things that you get for being an alpha tester are the ability to use debug and dirtycheater commands to break the game, you can read your epilogues at the end of the game, and you can enable seasonal content outside of the April Fools / Easter / Halloween / Christmas versions of the game.

There's always a lot of new juicy experimental stuff reserved for alpha testers - just check out the latest changelists - there's always an alpha tester only section! In September 2024, this included:

Port Supporter: an extra $5 + VAT on SubscribeStar

A very competent software developer called Luna is porting Trap Quest to Godot, and needs your financial support!

Joining one of these slightly higher priced tiers will (soon) give you access to content / development priority polls, and pre-alpha builds.
